The all-new Amelia Writes Here DOT com

10 August 201511 August 2015

Ameliawrites-launch

Riding off the festivities of Singapore’s Jubilee National Day weekend, there’s extra reason to celebrate today because I am finally breaking the silence on the blog with  very exciting news!

This day has been in the works for awhile.

But it is finally here.

And I couldn’t be more excited happy and thrilled, all at the same time.

Welcome to Amelia Writes Here DOT com!

To begin, I need to give credit and HUGE thanks to my ever-rad friend Caylee for all her help in getting this set-up. She put up with rounds of drafts and ideas, me changing my mind multiple times, and patiently worked things through with me for the past three months. This day would not be possible without her and there are not enough words of thanks.

The content that you know and love is still the same but there are also changes for better. Aside from the brand new look, here’s what’s new:

  • A brand-new newsletter for you to join the party!
  • An updated About page
  • A new sidebar with the top categories I blog about
  • A sweet new scroll-to-top button for handy navigation

You should be automatically redirected to the new website, but do take note of the new domain. You can also follow me on bloglovin’.

I’m still working through organizing everything in detail and hope to have the archives organized to a t soon. If you find kinks or missing content, please let me know and I’ll work as quickly as possible to get it fixed!

I hope you enjoy the new site.

Thank you for your continued patience, love and support for what I do here. I am so grateful for your presence on this journey.

4 life lessons from blogging

12 November 2014

The truth is that blogging teaches you about life. Here are 4 life lessons.

With the blog just turning three on Monday, I spent some time reflecting on the past three years of blogging. During this time, I’ve learned so much about blogging, about myself, about life.

I could tell you a long list of things to do and not to do, things I wish I knew when I started blogging, etc. But those are for another day.

When I think about it, it’s interesting to realize that blogging isn’t just an online thing – it changes you and teaches you about real life.

Here are four lessons about life that blogging has taught me:

  1. Be consistent.

This is something I’m constantly working on, but this was the year I really started to blog intentionally and regularly. It’s been so neat seeing things grow and how this blog has moved forward.

And in real life, consistency is so key in getting things done and achieving goals (one of the reasons why I’m doing my habit challenge).

  2. Be happy for others.

It’s easy to get caught up in the comparison game and compare your success to another’s. But remember that everyone has a different beginning, a different story. So set aside the comparison and just simply be happy for how well others are doing.

And oh man, this one is definitely equally true online as it is in real life.

  3. Reach out.

Whether to form friendships, give a word of encouragement, or ask for advice, don’t be afraid to reach out to other bloggers. You might need to step out of your comfort zone. But even if you’re unsure, the worst you can get is a “No”. And most of the time, you’ll find that fellow bloggers are more than happy to help and respond.

Beyond the interwebs, I’ve found this to be true even in real life. When you look beyond yourself and reach out to others, you may be surprised by the results and how well things turn out.

  4. Spread the love.

There are so many reasons to love blogging, but a huge and rewarding part of it is the community that you get to be a part of. I’ve been so blessed by the friendships I’ve formed in this community, and spreading the love by mentioning fellow bloggers that I enjoy and appreciate is just a tiny way to show my gratitude, and support the people in this community. Spreading the love is just one way of giving back to a community that has blessed me a ton.

And even if life gets ugly and hard, turn around with kindness and keep spreading the love. Because I like to remind myself that “everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”.

Now it’s your turn – what has blogging taught you? Share them in the comments!

P.S. The birthday giveaway from Pretty Organised and Big City Quiet is still open – don’t forget to enter for a chance to win their amazing products! You don’t want to miss it!

Three years + a giveaway! (closed)

Celebrating 3 years of Amelia Writes!

I’m super excited today because this blog is three years old!!!

Kinda cray, right.

I guess that’s pretty old in this internet world where things are constantly evolving and nothing stays the same for long.

I get a little sentimental thinking about my blogging journey and how this blog has grown with me through the past three years.

This blog has seen me turn twenty, twenty-one, twenty-two, and most recently, twenty-three. It has recorded the things I’ve made in scrapbook layouts (yes, I actually used to make those!), cards, and Project Life spreads. It has documented the lists I’ve made, the numerous recipes I’ve tried for 20, 21, and 22, and DIY projects that I’ve executed.

Blogging has brought me new friends, taught me to step out of my comfort zone, showed me the importance of working hard and doing what I love. Safe to say, my life wouldn’t be the same without this blog.

It has truly been a very good ride.

I’m so grateful for the people I’ve met on this journey, for the support of friends and family, for the goals I’ve set and accomplished, for the dreams I have and strive toward, and for the readers (that’s you!) who make this journey as meaningful as it has been for me.

And certainly, today wouldn’t be a party without presents!

So as part of the celebrations this week, my lovely friends Caylee and Rachel contributed, not one, not two, but three prizes for three winners in a giveaway especially for you guys.

Making new friends is one of the most rewarding things about blogging, and these ladies constantly inspire me with who they are and what they do – including the products they create for their Etsy shops! I know you will love using these products.

Time certainly flies and I actually kept this up for an entire year.

Today is exactly one year since I started this blog – one year of writing and pictures and all that jazz. I’ve loved thinking about things to write for this space and sharing about all my adventures in food + paper + life.

THANK YOU for sticking around and reading about happenings in my little corner of this world. I’m so grateful for family and friends and readers (like you!) who support me in this.

It’s definitely been good.

Today, I’ll do lots of happy things to celebrate Amelia Writes Here turning ONE (:

Thank you, again for being a part of my life here.
And I hope you decide to stay for more.

Have a fabulous weekend, xx.
