2014: this was the year

31 December 2014

Ameliawrites-NYE2014

What a year 2014 was.

This was the year I formed friendships through Instagram.
This was the year I ran my personal best 10K.
This was the year I focused on building this blog.
This was the year I made memories at USS.
This was the year I celebrated three years of blogging.
This was the year I learned about the important things in life.
This was the year I learned to trust.
This was the year I tightened my friendships in real life.
This was the year I pressed on through a challenging year at school.
This was the year I discovered new places and went on new adventures.
This was the year I pushed my creativity.
This was the year I documented life.
This was the year I grew in new ways.

This was the year I saw God be true and real all over again.

2014 was such a good ride in so many ways.

As the clock ticks toward midnight and we ring in the New Year, I am so thankful for all that 2014 was, and I am so looking forward to all that 2015 will be.

Happy Blessed New Year, friends!

May it be the best year yet.

P.S. I’ll be taking the next few days off and I’ll see you again during the first week of January!

The hope of a New Year

Hope

What I love so much about starting a new year is HOPE – another chance to start over, to believe in better things, another opportunity to change, to make new mistakes, to learn and grow.

The hope of a new year also brings uncertainty of the future. Uncertainty of what might happen, what could happen, what might not happen. There are so many reasons to fear what is ahead.

But this year, I’m embracing hope – the endless possibilities, the big dreams, the lessons and mistakes. All the anticipation, excitement, and thrill of what can and will be – that’s the hope of a new year.

From me to you, happy blessed 2014.

Here’s to 2014 and all that it will be. May it be the best year yet.

2013: in retrospect

31 December 2013

As we reflect on the year that has passed, and contemplate the year ahead, I love being able to look back in retrospect and see how I’ve grown and changed through the year – the things I’ve done, the mistakes I’ve made, the places I’ve been, the relationships I’ve built…

This was the year I…

  • passed my driving test and got my license (!!)
  • stayed on the Dean’s List
  • finished my freshman year of college
  • did summer school
  • made new friends + got closer to old(er) ones
  • studied the book of Genesis
  • learned to embrace change + each season of life
  • did things on the twenty-one list
  • tried twenty-one new recipes
  • turned twenty-two
  • gave plenty of piano lessons
  • tried not to stress out about school
  • stepped out of my comfort zone, in faith
  • got an Instagram account for the blog
  • ran my first half-marathon
  • made thirteen DIY projects
  • vacationed in Hong Kong
  • started writing letters
  • had to adapt to change
  • reminded myself to be thankful in all things

I certainly think 2013 was much quieter, and not as dramatic or exciting as 2012. And I’ll confess that I certainly didn’t keep all my New Year’s Resolutions. But I’m still so so thankful for yet another year.

What a blessing to be able to look back on the year that has passed and marvel at all that was.

I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store.

New year, new beginnings

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Here’s to an amazing year with experiencing more of God’s goodness!

I’m excited for what this new year will bring.

2012: in retrospect

So here we are, standing again at the end of yet another year, and at the start of a brand new one. It seems like I always come to the end of each year and wonder where time went, and how insanely quickly it flew by.

But what can I say? Twenty twelve pretty much blew me away.

This year, I…

  • traveled around Asia
  • visited Malacca, Tioman, Bangkok/Pua, Manila
  • went diving for the first time and got my license
  • turned twenty-one!
  • made new friends all over the world <3
  • attempted to do Project Life and Project 52 and failed miserably (and that’s okay!)
  • started university
  • completed (most of) the 20 list
  • celebrated this blog turning one!
  • tried balut and silkworms (for the experience)
  • took my cello exam and passed with distinction (majorly thankful!)
  • learned to trust God, His perfect plans and time, and His sovereignty
  • got straight bangs
  • baked a cupcake tower for a wedding
  • bought a spankin’ new laptop
  • learned how to drive
  • learned how to sew
  • led a Bible study group
  • started running, and ran 5K, 9K, and 10Ks
  • watched the Olympics
  • jumped onto the Instagram bandwagon
  • gained new perspectives on life
  • learned + re-learned lessons
  • was reminded of how blessed I am + how good God is to me
  • felt truly free
  • saw God answer prayer in ways I never imagined
  • went on a Journey of a lifetime that pretty much changed my life

2012 was pretty amazing, if you ask me; I daresay, this might’ve been the best year yet. God is so good.

Each new year always seems to bring with it a new level of questions and uncertainties. And while only God knows what’s in store for 2013, judging by what He did this year, I can already tell next year will be pretty swell. I’m completely excited for what He will do this coming year!

Wishing you a very merry + blessed 2013 to you and yours.

This year

31 December 2011

2011 was my gap year.

At the beginning of the year, I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted to do for my future. But as the year progressed, I wasn’t so sure after all.

Nonetheless, I really enjoyed 2011.

This year, I…

  • took floral arrangement lessons
  • picked up playing the cello again
  • made 52 creative projects
  • cut my hair into a bob, then grew it out again
  • helped plan for family church camp
  • started giving piano lessons
  • learnt (still learning) how to be satisfied in God
  • went to prayer group (almost) every other Wednesday
  • traveled to Hong Kong and Beijing and loved every minute of it
  • started this blog
  • took the SATs
  • played for, and sang in a church wedding
  • helped out at Saturday children’s clubs in church
  • made new friends
  • took O-level higher Chinese exams
  • read 23 books
  • turned 20

I did all that and more this year, to say the least.

In addition to the twenty list, here’s what I hope for 2012: be more organized and punctual, complete another 52 creative projects, and spend consistent, daily time with God.

I think the last one might the one I hope I will be best at.

Goodbye, 2011.
You were a good year.

Here’s to an amazing 2012!

xoxo.
