YEAH!

Praying for wind + rain to blow all this haze away.

Staying indoors in an attempt to hide from all the haze.

Looking back at this past week and being grateful for all the things that kept me busy.

Looking forward to getting to run outside again once this whole haze crisis is all over.

Reminding myself to not ever take clean air for granted again.

Wishing that summer vacation would last just a little bit longer.

Cherishing time being together with family.

Trying to do as much as I can to fully utilize this last weekend before school starts.

Planning for fall classes and the second half of twenty thirteen.

Excited to do some DIY projects.

Have a super duper weekend! xx.

Friday favorite no. 005 // super fast class – handwriting

21 June 2013

While scrolling through my twitter feed last week, I came across a link to this video by Kristina Werner, which left me pretty inspired.

Growing up, I didn’t always have the nicest handwriting and I was constantly in envy of the girls in class whose cute handwriting made me wish I wrote better. As I got older, my handwriting became a little bit better and I started actually liking my writing. But somewhere, somehow, this writing of mine started getting all scribbly and messy again and now I don’t like it so much anymore.

I must say, with all the influx of technology nowadays, maybe all the time I spend typing on my computer and scrolling through my smartphone doesn’t give me much opportunity to practice writing with a pen (or pencil) anymore. So hmm, maybe technology is all to blame.

Still, I really hope that I get back to the phase of having better writing and liking my handwriting again.

But until then, I’ll just have to keep practicing, take every opportunity I have to use a pen to practice and try to make this handwriting as good I can get it.

I think I might just be busy practicing this weekend. Happy Friday!

Life

This past week, God taught (and re-taught) me lessons about who He is, about His grace and sovereignty, about life, about myself and things that I need to learn/am still learning.

I definitely haven’t got it all figured out. But I am reminded that while I can’t control what happens in life, I can choose my responses + reactions – my perspectives, my attitudes, my words, my actions, my thoughts. These are things I get to choose.

And with God’s help, I’ll make the right choices.

Mini Nutella Cheesecake by Bakers Royale

20130513_173452

In this house, May is full of birthdays and cakes. And this nutella cheesecake was the beginning of the several cakes we had last month.

Instead of putting these into cupcake cases, Adelia put the batter into a round tin to make a cake. Despite the cake being a little rich, we all liked how nice and chocolate-y it was. Add to that the distinct hazelnut taste from the nutella – a sure-win for this chocolate-loving family. And contrary to what the recipe said, we liked it best from the fridge.

So good.

Stromboli by Lauren’s latest

Untitled

I had this pinned on my food board for awhile but finally got around to making it. I used my bread machine to make my own pizza dough and followed the recipe for the rest. We’ve had this twice already and it was a pretty simple recipe that everyone loved.

We definitely enjoyed this stromboli recipe.

Friday favorite no. 004 // june desktop wallpapers

14 June 2013

It’s pretty crazy to think that June is already halfway through. And before you know it, July will be here! And while this favorite may be about two weeks late (considering it’s for the month of June), there’s still half of June left to enjoy these free desktop wallpapers.

There are several fun (and free) wallpapers here! I currently have the popsicle one from Design Love Fest as my laptop wallpaper. Too cute.

Such a fun way to kick-start the weekend. Happy Friday!

Chocolate Soufflé

20130219_230539

Something about a soufflé makes it tricky to master that it sometimes even catches some of the most experienced chefs by surprise. But as always, my little sister loves a good challenge. So she googled a soufflé recipe and decided to try this one. In her words, it was a little too simple to capture the full depth of the soufflé.

Not to be outdone by a soufflé, she went back and found another recipe, and decided to try this recipe by Gordon Ramsay instead. With quite a few more steps than the first recipe, this soufflé turned out pretty good. Alas, I don’t think we remembered to get a picture of it because we were too busy savoring all the goodness that is chocolate soufflé (:

I think with many things, practice makes perfect. So I’m pretty sure we’ll be trying this out again to make the perfect chocolate soufflé!

True that.

I’m constantly working on getting rid of bad old habits and creating healthy new ones. And I daresay, breaking old habits is hard. But this quote really reminds me of the hard truth that whether I like it or not, the choices I make each day contribute to the person I eventually become.

Consistency is hard. But consistency is key.

And I want to consistently be the kind of person God wants me to be.
