Off and away!

23 May 2012

And we are!

My little sister and I have this amazing, albeit last minute, opportunity to go to Pua, Chiang Mai to teach English.

Everyone who’s seen me travel says I can’t fit all my stuff into a 7kg carry-on. But we’ll see. Fingers crossed!

I have no idea what to expect. But I expect it’s going to be good.

See you in a few! (:
Back on Monday.

Happy Mother’s Day!

“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.”
– Abraham Lincoln

I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my mother.

I know I sometimes often take you for granted. But thank you, Mom. Thank you for always giving me the hard stuff in love, for your unconditional, unrelenting love and sacrifice, for how much you show me God’s love through you.

I always thank God for you.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.
I love you.

What should’ve been Week in a Life

11 May 2012

I had initially planned on following along for Ali Edward’s Week in a Life project for the week of 23-29 April.

But somehow, that didn’t quite happen. And the paltry number of pictures I have are proof of that.

Maybe I’m just not quite used to bringing my camera around and taking pictures of the small, routine things? I probably need to get used to that.

Anyhow, there’s always next time. Or I might just try again on my own later this year. We’ll see.

But just because, here’s whatever pictures I had from the days I did take photos.

I can’t believe that we’re already at the end of the week.
And this weekend is also Mother’s Day!

What plans do you have for celebrating Mom this Sunday?

P.S. If you need ideas, check out this neat post by Danni at the oh, hello friend blog!

More happy mail.

I feel so blessed that I won another Basic Grey prize, woohooo! (: Unexpected surprises like these always make my day.

I wish I didn’t have to pick just one, but I went with the What’s Up collection.

I LOVE the hot air balloons and the muted colors of this collection. Can’t wait to use them on my pages!

P.S. Check out their facebook page for a picture with me and my prize! (:

10K.

7 May 2012

Although the Nike Goddess 5K was the first race I did, Run350 was the first race I signed up for. And I honestly never thought that I would do two races within a week of each other.

But on 22 April 2012, I ran the Run350 10K.

And truth be told, I was pretty nervous going into the 10K on 22 April because I was anything but religious for the crucial last few weeks of training leading up to the race; my brain and body were pretty much switched off about training after Saturday’s 5K.

But I had three goals going into Sunday’s 10K:

  1. FINISH.
  2. NOT walk (except at like water points and stuff).
  3. RUN within one and a half hours.

All in that order.

But I did it.

I made it to the finish line without walking and in under one and a half hours. In fact, I think I managed to do it in 1:10:32. I still can’t believe I did it (it couldn’t have been more surreal), and I’m pretty proud of my accomplishment, if I don’t say so myself (: This especially since I could hardly run 1K without feeling breathless at the end of last year, to actually completing a 10K. That’s a pretty big deal to me.

The experiences with Run350 and Nike were completely different: the Run350 participants were definitely more experienced and the spacing along the route was much better, albeit rather boring, while Nike just seemed a whole lot more relaxed.

The first 6K was pretty manageable. But the second half of the race felt like it would never end. It was pretty much mind over matter, and forcing myself to listen to my head, not my body. I don’t know whether it had anything to do with the idea of running 10K, but getting to the finish line pretty much felt like forever after I passed 7K. I felt like giving up several times but I managed to take it home to the finish line.

Of course, not without the help of seeing friends along the way and family support (xo).

I am so proud of this medal and of the accomplishment it represents – can you tell? HAHA.

My first 10K experience was pretty amazing; I was still living off the adrenaline high one week after the race (:

I’d do it all over again.

Recently.

Stuff made recently.

Well, relatively recently.

Like a couple weeks ago or so.

I think this week is going to pass by quicker and sooner than I realize.

I want new nail polish colors.

I am super stressed out by studying for SATs and everything I need to do in between.

I wish I weren’t so busy.  But I tell myself that busy is good.

I need to up the style factor with more new shoes and clothes.

I shouldn’t be thinking about shopping.

I miss my friend Paye.

I am wondering about Dear Lizzy and Amy Tangerine clear stamps which I wish were in stock.

I feel like I get to have a break from training this week before reminding myself that I have a 10K run this weekend. Training’s not over – yet. Sigh.

I have more stuff happening this week than I thought I did.

I put on weight 🙁

I (probably) need a hair cut soon.

I have more time to study for SATs than I thought I did. Such revelations are always good things.

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.

the 20 list / participate in a race. done.

16 April 2012

As the Nike slogan goes, “Just do it!”

So I did.

This past Saturday, I ran my first race this year. Or my first race ever, for that matter. I ran the Nike Women’s 5K with my little sister at Wavehouse Sentosa.

My goal for this race was to have fun, which I accomplished. I made a bunch of newbie mistakes, like weaving past people, running through water points, and (possibly) missing my checkpoint. And I’ll admit, the adrenaline rush wasn’t quite as much I expected it to be. But now that I’m done, I honestly had so much fun; I would totally do it again (:

Altogether, I had such a blast taking pictures, running in the rain, enjoying the atmosphere of a race, and just being with my little sister (xo).

Now, this Sunday’s 10K is going to be the real challenge.

Flea Market Finds

11 April 2012

Over the weekend, my little sister and I got to check out the flea market at *Scape.

And I got these super cute vintage tea cup set and a handful of badges for a really good price. Bargains are always a good thing (:

I’m planning to use the tea cups to organize trinkets and supplies and things.

I love these already.

This is gonna be fun (:
